Inspired

After a bit of a low point earlier in the fall, I've recently been feeling inspired.

What has this inspiration led to?

• Most of a chapter of my new book (this is not actually exciting for 99.8% of the population, because it's an academic book with a fairly limited likely audience [though, shhh, I won't say that when I approach publishers, of course!]).  But, it's a good thing to be getting done, and will set me up nicely for my sabbatical plans next academic year.
• An attempt to take action against my expanding butt and waistline, which are threatening me (again!) with having to buy new clothes due to all of mine starting not to fit very well.  So, on Tuesday, I was inspired to go out and do the first day of the couch potato to 5K plan.  And today, I did the second.  We'll see if I keep it up (actually, if anyone wants to harass me about that, that'd be great!  No, seriously!  Public shame works!)
• A spurt of knitting finishing so I could move on to something else with a clear heart.  It seemed like time to finish up my TIFF socks; I did the whole first one during the film festival, and then never started the second one.  So... I did.  And I finished it last night.  I like the pattern quite a bit (and find it sort of magical, because the pattern chart does not look like it would end up in such a cool zigzag pattern), but, honestly, they're not the greatest socks, mostly because they're a touch too big, and are thus very, very slouchy.  So, I'm basically glad to see the back of them, and to move on to something else that will hopefully be more satisfying.

• And I made some travel plans--I'm going to Prague for a week in December after classes end, to visit a friend who's been there all semester, and to celebrate my birthday.  This was a very spur of the moment decision, but I'm totally looking forward to it.  I just... like to go places.  I don't always do a very good job at the actually going places, so when this came up this week I decided... what the heck.  Time to go to Prague.  I've been there once before (10 years ago!), but I'm probably going to end up traveling out of the city this time, which I didn't do on my last trip because it was so short.

And on the subject of travel, I just found this.  Maybe everyone already knows about it, but I didn't.  And it just made me smile (even if it's on some level an advertisement).  People can be so freaking cool.
