There's been a lot going on in my non-knitting life over the past little bit (nothing bad, just transitions and limbo periods and negotiations) that have made me a) not inclined to post and b) not all that excited about my knitting life.
This is partially because after looking at all the yarn I'd accumulated over the past year, I decided that I had to start dealing with some of the projects I either already had on the needles, or that I had specifically bought yarn to knit. And yet I wasn't necessarily all that inspired by any of it.
Well, that's not even true. I quite like much of it, but... eh, whatever. I also haven't photographed a couple of things I've finished, and both of those things are currently in a different city. So.
But, I did just finish one project while up in Toronto (where I currently am), and so here it is.
What is this, you might ask? Well, one of my friends just adopted a baby--it was one of those whirlwind sudden things that finished off quite a lengthy and difficult process. And so to commemorate this, and because I so enjoyed knitting the twins' turtles last summer, I decided I wanted to knit a special toy.
I knew my friend rides, and so asked her casually what color her horse is... and found a knitted horse pattern (ravelry link, because it's a Lion Brand pattern that requires a log-in to view) that could be adapted to match Sam.
I used KnitPicks Shine Sport, because I'd liked using it for the turtles. And I adapted the pattern to be knitted in the round. This was for the most part very easy, although I had to do some short rows to shape the head.
As you can see, it's a fairly detailed pattern. The plain body, above, has lots of shaping to give the horse withers and things, so it's an interesting thing to knit.
The end result is... well, see for yourself.
Pretty cute, right? The mane combined with the closed eyes I decided to give him totally makes me think of Janice.
Anyway, he got handed over on Monday, and was a hit with mom and baby. So, yay.
